    Place For Your Noble Recreation

We offer guests a day trip to the beautiful Askhi Mountains. Before 2026, only a few people were able to make this trip, and it was fraught with great difficulty. A new road allows you to explore this beautiful place in a single day using off-road vehicles.

The Askhi Mountains are located in the alpine zone, at an average altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level. Its highest point is Mount Gadrekili, at 2,519 meters. The mountain range is located on the border of Imereti, Lechkhumi, and Samegrelo.

The road to Askhi passes through the village of Kinchkha and the Okatse Waterfall. The road then passes through dense forest for several kilometers. Here you will drive in the shade of huge, centuries-old beeches, hornbeams, and linden trees.

The alpine zone begins on the southern slope of the Askhi Mountains, covered in a carpet of flowers of incredible hues. The pass is located at an altitude of 2,300 meters.

After crossing the pass, the vast expanse of the massif opens up before you. This expanse is bordered to the west by the Samegrelo region and the Tekhuri River, to the north by the beautiful Svaneti Mountains, and to the east by Tskhenistkali and Lechkhumi, crowned by the fairytale Mount Khvamli.

This place used to be known as a horse paradise. Every summer, horses from the surrounding regions were brought here for summer pastures. Even today, there are many horses here. They often gather together and gallop across these fields at high speed.

We offer guests a tour of our historic estate. The history of the estate and the family is presented on the main page of this website – "The Chikovani Estate."

The tour includes a tour of the old courtyard, overgrown with centuries-old trees. One of the linden trees is approximately 500 years old.

The walls of the hall of the old house are decorated with bas-reliefs that vividly depict the history of the estate.

A four-century-old family tree is also presented. The central figure in this tree is Dmitry Chikovani, the last ruler of this region, who had 16 children with one wife.

Guests can visit the old wine cellar and taste wines and other beverages. They can also see an ancient wine press, which is still in operation.

There are also jugs (qvevri) here. Here, using an Austrian still, wine is distilled to produce cognac spirit. In addition to cognac and chacha, we produce fruit vodkas. Vodka made from tkemli, chkunti (wild pear), and apples is very popular. We also produce Calvados.

Guests can take a tour of the vineyard, grape alley (talaveri), and orchards. Finally, they can visit the entertainment hall and billiards room.

Chateau Chikovani

Chikovani’s Last Name comes from Svaneti. Centuries ago, surname started migration to Lechkhumi, Imereti and Samegrelo. One of Chikovani surname tribes, which since 1704 had Samegrelo nobles - Dadianis title, is related with village Gordi.

Katsia Chikovani was promoted during the years 1661-1680 by lord Levan III Dadiani. King of Imereti Bagrat IV gave him, vizier, and give to rule Lechkhumi and sainasaridzo territory. Soon after, the katsia takes Head of the stewards in Samegrelo.

Dadiani gave Saliparitiano to Katsia and as the owner of the Salipatitiano’s territory admitted him as Liparitiani. Chikovani has contributed to the strengthening of the king of Imereti with Levan Dadiani and go between the falling Lechkhumi for confrontation. Katsia advantage of quarrels even the door began to Samegrelo principal greatness narrowing. By Katsia’s initiative, in 1704 his grandson Katsia I was consecrated as Dadiani and he started new dynasty of Odishi lords.

Dimitri

In Gordi, in the Dadiani Palace, the last elder of the family was our great-grandfather, Dimitri Konstantinovich Chikovani (1861-1937). Dimitri's three sons fell victim to the struggle against the Bolsheviks. Dimitri himself in 1937, 74-year-old man in his maturity Soviet authorities sentenced him to death.

Dimitir's great-grandfather - Beko (1780 -?), Was the founder of this lands. Beko had 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One of the grandchildren was Dimitri Chikovani, who had 16 children. Unfortunately, at present, this ancient branch of the Chikovani, the genus has only two young successor: Dmitri Tamazi’s son and Papuna Ucha's son.

IIn recent years, the situation has changed. In 2018, 2021, and 2025, three more boys were born: Ucha, Alexander, and Vache, the sons of Papuna Chikovani.

In the late 1930s, when the estate fell on hard times due to the repressions, the savior of the estate, Mrs. Olya (Domna) Gogelia, wife of Ucha Dimitrievich, arrived from Batumi.

It is to her credit that the estate has survived to this day. She passed away at the age of 98. Until her last days, she retained a healthy mind and an extraordinary sense of humor.

As she herself said, it was thanks to her hard work that she lived so long. Her calloused hands were proof of this.

One of her main missions in life was to warmly welcome guests. Apparently, frequent visits gave her the opportunity to showcase the achievements of her labor. Perhaps her soul rejoices that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, raised by her example, have preserved this tradition.

God Bless All Georgia and Chikovani's Lands
